About The Founder
Thomas Heinen was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, to a missionary Scottish father and a Hungarian mother. He displayed an early talent for computers and entrepreneurship. At age 22, he created a video game and sold it to a hardware company. In 1981, Thomas and his mother migrated to the United States. After obtaining a U.S. passport, Thomas cut ties completely with Budapest, Hungary, as he was unwilling to support the country's apartheid-like agenda and sought the greater economic opportunities available in the United States.
Thomas Heinen is a Hungarian-born entrepreneur, now an American citizen, known for his significant contributions to technology, workplace health, safety, and the environment. He is also involved in natural disaster response and efforts to reduce the effects of climate change. Born in the mid-1950s, he was married and has amazing children. Unfortunately, his wife passed away a few years ago.
Thomas’s parents were passionate about education and ensured he pursued it to the highest level. He earned his first degree in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) from the prestigious University of Hungary, followed by a master’s in Risk and Safety Management and a PhD in Renewable Energies. After completing his education, he emigrated to the United States in 1984 and was immediately employed by Cosco Shipping Company as a professional safety officer. He later rose to become the Head of the Safety Department and retired after 37 years of service.
After retirement, Thomas pursued further studies in education and physics at the University of Oregon. In 2019, he founded Dr. Heinen Academy, an online industrial safety institute. Today, it is one of the leading online safety academies, with over 10,000 students who have obtained various certifications under his mentorship and training. Thomas has initiated several innovative projects aimed at developing brain-computer interface technologies to enhance workplace and environmental Safety. His personal life marked by deep relationships and philanthropy reflects his intensely private nature, shaped by his rich family heritage. He is best known as a leading consultant in the environmental safety industry and the founder of Dr. Heinen Academy, which has revolutionized industrial safety training.
